Talk about the shortcomings of the media. We could have been told the right way to pronounce this word right from the beginning. The authentic and correct pronunciation of this country might be difficult for Americans or Britishers (though I doubt that), but for the Indian tongue this would have rolled out easily. But no. We had to be fed the anglicised and incorrect pronunciation of this country by both English and Hindi newsreaders. I can understand the English newsreader wanting to be anglicised. But the Hindi news reader preferring the anglicised version is inexplicable.
So what do you think is the correct pronunciation of this place. Did I hear you say roe-mania? Well that is incorrect. The correct pronunciation is roman-year (respelling). If you are referring to the pronunciation key, this would be roomaniiyaa. If you can read Devanagari, it is रोमनीया.
