I recently attended the national conference of CII at Delhi. CII of course stands for Confederation of Indian Industry. The fact that this word was mispronounced was known to me, but when I saw all (yes all) captains of industry and speakers mispronounce it, it made me wonder. Hence this entry.
The sound between 'd' and 's' is a schwa, or an unaccented syllable. This is hard to depict in Indian languages, but it comes closest to इंड्स्ट्री. Think of a halant below the 'd'. That way you will be closer to the correct pronunciation. However when you use the word industrial, the sound between d and s will be what most people normally use in industry.
